Wouldn't it be nice to see names that are just first names?
I don't see a problem with this happening...and it would only take the devs like 5 seconds...

The dialog is a little iffy when they say the first and last names in most cases, and most of the names in GW aren't really names at all. At least include the ability for first names only too.

Btw, I call Bob

Well, I see where you're coming from, but there are so many people with stupid names like "X Wammo X" and "|| Teh Necro ||" - their "first name" would end up being "X" or "||"...which would look even more stupid and out of place!

But what about the decent people :C

Sure, X and stuff might be stupid, but that's to the persons own discretion. If they know they're being stupid, then let them. More sources for my jokes.

How do you know it will only take them 5 seconds?

Well...it seems like such a small change...

If not 5 seconds, then 5 minutes. :P

Oh c'mon how hard is it just to come up with a good first and second name? Pretty hard for some people I guess, judging from some stupid names that people came up with.

I think it's the security reason that required people to make a second name for their characters. I remember reading it somewhere.

Probably only work if you could edit your name in game.

Its not just the stupid names its those that gave titles to their characters that maybe wouldnt have if this excisted.

Captain John or Baron Von Klinkenhoffer or Lord Dalrymple etc.

I like the idea if it can be implemented and players have a choice or an edit option.

Think most of my characters are ok though

Well this is a role playing game isnt it?
So its based on a role
So in real life you have two name too, so does a role playing character, and they made the "last name" option becuase if you get 1.000.000 characters around the world you have used everyname ...

So this would happend:
Guy1 makes "Name"
Guy2 want to make "Name" but the name is taken so he make "Name1"
And go on, so you would get "Name111"

On the contrary I think it should be stricter. Names that are jokes, names that are gibberish, names that are insults... should not be allowed. Ruins the experience.

They already don't allow numbers, so this wouldnt be a problem.

Insulting names that suggest hatred towards a particular group or detailing a vulgar act should be prevented, but joke names? Gibberish names? If people want to create a name like "Frenzy Plus Mending Rocks" or "Rurik Sprinted Out of Ascalon" then by all means, let them!

(Yes, I know the names are too long to actually be implemented. They're just an example.)

The unique names of the characters in Guild Wars is what gives us part of the experience. Personally, I feel being restricted to "RPG Names" would dull the tip of the gameplay and community experience. There's already about 300,000 characters with "Death" in their name. Let's just keep the horizons broad so we don't see 800,000...

Coming up with a character name shouldn't be taken lightly, I've seen far too many juvenile names all trying to be funny and most them regret naming them "She on Fire" or "Joes warrior".

Its common sense that ALL jokes get old after time. People who regret naming their Necro "Stinkfest is best" learn a valuable lesson about sarcasm and humor in general.

This is a roleplaying game, yes its suppose to be fun, but its still a roleplaying game. So participate in the role of fantasy character.

My sin would be called "ill" that would be funny XD.

Still if you care about the role play side your name wont be "O MG rurik dies" it will be somthing more fitting that will look in place. So its one of those changes that there is really no reason not to give an option for it is also a change that is kinda small to worry about.

And Prince.

Anyway, /undecided. I'm not against it, but I kinda think the system's okay as is. Let people choose one-word names and you'll get people who use every single character, which is annoying, but I'm not gonna get all upset if it's implemented.
